U14's Make It A Local Double!

U14 League

St Malachy’s Portadown 3-3 Sean Treacy’s Lurgan 6-4

Sean Treacy’s Under 14 hurlers travelled to Portadown on Thursday night hoping to emulate the achievement of the senior team who were victorious over Portadown on Tuesday night.  In deed 3-3 seems to be the magic number for Portadown in this particular week as their seniors had the same score on the Tuesday.

The Under 14 team emulated the seniors, but only after a tightly fought contest with a young but skilful Portadown team.  Despite playing with the wind in the first half, Sean Treacys found themselves 2 goals down at half time, although it should be noted that this was due in no small measure to some fine saves from the Portadown goalkeeper.  Half time score Portadown 3:2, Sean Treacys 1:2.

Half time saw some changes to the Sean Treacys line up.  Aidan McVeigh was introduced at full forward and had an immediate effect.  Two minutes after the throw in and Sean Treacys were level thanks to two goals, one from Aidan McVeigh and the other a fantastic over head pull from Josh Drake which sent the Portadown net rippling.  This lifted Treacy’s who took control of the game and began to dominate in all sectors of the field.

Darren McAlinden and Colm McCavigan ruled at midfield and Peter Devlin who was moved to centre half back gathered ball after ball.  Such was the grip which Sean Treacys had over the game, that Portadown were only able to score one point in the second half to Treacy’s 5 goals and two points.

This victory for Sean Treacys means they have a 100% league record and next week sees the Lurgan team host Middletown.
