Under 12's Magnificent in Victory Over Cuchullains

6 June 2005

Sean Treacys 6:6         Cuchullains 2:1

Sean Treacy’s under 12 team brought Cuchullains unbeaten run to a dramatic end with a crushing defeat on Monday night at the North Circular Road pitch.  It was a glorious evening and the match began at a high tempo with both teams exchanging a goal and a point.  Cuchullains took the lead against the run of play with a speculative high ball that some how deceived the Treacy’s defence to find the net, leaving the score Sean Treacy’s 1:1 Cuchullains 2:1.  But that was the last score Cuchullains got as the Lurgan lads grabbed took complete control of the match from that point onwards. In deed some of the interplay between Treacy’s midfield and half forward line was out of the top drawer.  Connor Litter who was in superb form scored three goals in the time remaining as Treacy’s took a deserved lead of 4:1 to 2:1 into the break. Niall Lavery in the half back line was outstanding and Daniel Magee with his midfield partner, Joe McAnerney, also excelled.  In the half forward line Mark Neeson shone give a display of skill and accuracy.

In the second half it was more of the same.  Sean Treacys were firmly in the driving seat cheered on by a sizeable crowd made up of proud parents club officials and players from other age groups which had turned out to watch the match – how refreshing that is to see.  On the rare occasions in which Cuchullains did get out of their half the defence was rock solid with David Prunty and Kevin Toland giving keeper Simon Doherty excellent cover, in fact Simon was a virtual spectator in the second half.  Conor Litter playing at full forward continued in the second half where he left off in the first finding the net again to bring his tally to four goals.  Joe McAnerney chipped in with 3 second half points and Mark Neeson ended the match with two points.  Connor McAlinden came on and wasted no time in getting on the score sheet with a well taken goal, Connor is making a name for himself as a super sub, with his continuing habit of finding the net moments after coming from the bench.

The performance of this under 12 team was as clinical as it was skilful and ranks as the finest display of hurling produced this year by any grade at the Lurgan club.  To keep a team scoreless from midway through the first half was a magnificent achievement that it was Cuchullains the aristocrats of Armagh Hurling on the receiving end bodes well for the future.  Having been beaten only once by Derrynoose who themselves were beaten by Cuchullains Treacy’s can reach the playoffs with victory in their remaining two games.  Next week they are at home to Craobh Rua from Camlough and will be looking to build on their magnificent performance.  Congratulations are due to the players and the management team of Mark Magee and Chris Magee.
